Title- Stormy Days Ahead: IMD Warns of Heavy Rainfall in Advance

Heavy Rain

Monsoon Arrives Early, Heavy Rains Lash India: What You Need to Know

This year’s monsoon is making headlines for all the right—and sometimes wrong—reasons. Arriving nine days ahead of schedule, it covered the whole country by June 29, which is pretty rare and the fastest in recent memory. The rain didn’t just show up early; it came with a bang, bringing heavy downpours, thunderstorms, and even some scary lightning across many states.

Rainfall Alerts Across the Map

If you live in Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, Haryana, Chandigarh, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Uttarakhand, or West Uttar Pradesh, you’re in for a wet week. The weather department has put out warnings for heavy rain in these areas, so it’s best to stay updated and be careful.

Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh: Red and Orange Alerts

Things got really serious in Uttarakhand, where a cloudburst near Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri road led to a landslide. Nine people are still missing, but thankfully, 20 others were rescued. Because of this, red and orange alerts have been sounded for both Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, meaning the situation is dangerous and people should stay alert.

Punjab and Haryana: Orange Alert and Heavy Rains

Punjab isn’t spared either. The IMD has issued an orange alert for several districts, including Patiala, Sangrur, Ludhiana, and Rupnagar. Over the weekend, heavy rain pounded these areas and also hit Haryana and Chandigarh. Chandigarh alone saw a whopping 119.5 mm of rain in just 24 hours. Other parts of Punjab like Ferozepur, Mohali, Patiala, Pathankot, and Rupnagar also got soaked.

Delhi Gets a Break from the Heat

Delhi’s weather finally gave residents a break from the heat and humidity. Light rain fell in places like Vasant Kunj, Malviya Nagar, and Tughlakabad, cooling things down a bit. The southwest monsoon officially arrived in Delhi on Sunday, and by the same day, it had covered the entire country. The minimum temperature in Delhi dropped to 26.8 degrees Celsius, which is a little cooler than usual for this time of year. Other areas like Hauz Khas, Kalkaji, Mehrauli, Chhattarpur, IGNOU, Aya Nagar, and Deramandi saw light to moderate rain, with some thunder and lightning. Delhi’s under a yellow alert, so keep an eye on the sky.

Jharkhand: Students Rescued After School Floods

In Jharkhand, heavy rain caused a scary situation at a private residential school in East Singhbhum district. About 162 students were trapped when the school got flooded on Saturday night. Thankfully, the police managed to rescue them on Sunday. The school, located on the Haldipokhar-Kowali Road, was completely surrounded by water.

Northeast India: Very Heavy Rain Expected

For those living in the northeast—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura—brace yourselves. The weather office is predicting very heavy rainfall from July 2 to 5. If you’re in any of these states, be prepared for more rain and possible disruptions.

Therefore with red, orange, and yellow alerts in place across many states, it’s important to stay safe, keep an eye on updates, and be ready for anything Mother Nature throws our way.
